Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adnan Kefal works in the Mechatronics Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering programs at Sabancı University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences and carries out research and product development activities at the Composite Technologies Center of Excellence. In addition, he is the founding chairman of the board of directors of MECHANIMA Engineering and Software Inc.
He completed his undergraduate education in 2013 as the top student of ITU Faculty of Naval Architecture and Marine Sciences with the highest GPA. He completed his doctoral education at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow in 2017 as a result of his innovative studies in the fields of structural health monitoring and computational mechanics. During this period, he served as a visiting researcher at NASA Langley Research Center and published joint articles. Additionally, he worked as a full-time researcher in various EU projects. Returning to Turkey after his PhD, Dr. Kefal prepared research projects in the fields of computational and experimental mechanics and established the CMEO research group at Sabancı University with the budget of the projects he successfully received.
The most important contribution of Dr. Kefal's scientific work to universal science is in computational and experimental mechanics, structural health monitoring, composite materials, topology optimization, design and manufacturing in the fields of mechanical engineering, naval architecture and marine machinery engineering, aerospace engineering and manufacturing engineering. He has published more than 100 articles in internationally respected journals in these fields. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Dr. Kefal was honored with the METU Parlar Foundation Award in 2022, a testament to the impact of his work. Furthermore, he received the 2023 Outstanding Achievement Award from the Council of Higher Education of Turkey, a prestigious accolade presented by the President of Turkey. These awards underscore Dr. Kefal’s exceptional dedication to the field of engineering and natural sciences.
